The peer support program consists of structured and scheduled activities for adults ages eighteen and older with a diagnosis of mental health or substance use disorders. Peer Supports are provided by North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialists. Peer Support Service is an individualized, recovery-focused service that empowers members to manage their own recovery by being hopeful, resilient and responsible.
Interventions of Peer Support staff serve to enhance the development of natural supports, as well as coping and self-management skills. Interventions of Peer Support staff also may provide supportive services to assist a member with community integration and maintaining wellness following treatment. Peer Support Services emphasize personal safety, self-worth, confidence, growth, community engagement, boundary setting, planning, self-advocacy, personal fulfillment, positive social supports and effective communication. Services emphasize the acquisition, development and expansion of rehabilitative skills needed to move forward in recovery, and in anticipation of future housing opportunities.
Elevation Community Services also develops relationships with employers in the community, often-times referring its residential clients for employment. For many employment brings social, economic, and intrinsic rewards. Employment can give a sense of identity, community involvement and often offers hope in recovery. Additionally, Elevation Community Services offers linkage and support to clients wanting to return to school or participate in other areas of employment.
